Broad General Education
S1 - S3

 


This curriculum is designed to build a strong foundation in English, preparing students for the transition to more specialized study in the senior phase (S4-S6). The focus is on developing confident, articulate, and thoughtful learners who are well-equipped to succeed in their future studies.

English S1-S3

The English curriculum focuses on developing core literacy skills, critical thinking, and a love for reading. 

S1

📚Reading: Students explore a variety of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. They begin to analyze characters, themes, and language, developing comprehension skills.
🖋️Writing: Emphasis is placed on creative writing, personal writing, and basic essay structures. Students practice spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
💬Listening & Talking:  Students engage in group discussions, presentations, and listening activities to build communication skills.

S2 
📚Reading: Texts become more complex, with a focus on deeper analysis of themes, character development, and authorial techniques. Students may study a novel, play, or collection of short stories.
🖋️Writing: Writing tasks include persuasive and discursive essays, in addition to creative writing. Students are encouraged to develop a clear structure and coherent arguments in their work.
💬Listening & Talking: Emphasis is placed on debating skills, group work, and oral presentations, helping students to articulate their ideas confidently.

S3 
📚Reading: Students engage with a wider range of texts, including classic and contemporary literature. Critical analysis skills are further developed, focusing on the evaluation of language, structure, and style.
🖋️Writing: There is a strong focus on preparing students for the senior phase, with more complex essay writing, including analytical and reflective essays. Creative writing continues to be encouraged, with an emphasis on drafting and editing.
💬Listening & Talking: Students refine their skills through more formal presentations, discussions, and debates, often related to the texts they are studying.

Assessment & Support:
✔️Ongoing Assessment: Students are assessed through a combination of classwork, homework, and periodic assessments, with feedback provided to support improvement.
✔️Supported Study: Additional support is often available to help students who may need extra help with particular aspects of the curriculum, ensuring they are well-prepared for the senior phase.
